Support

FIT Compare is a one‑person project. If a file won’t import, two rides don’t line up, or something looks off, email me directly and I’ll get back to you personally.

Get help

Email info@oberwalder.net with a description of the problem, your Mac or iPad model and system version, and which bike computer recorded the ride. If a single file is the problem, attach it — FIT files contain a GPS track, so only send one you are comfortable sharing.

Requirements

  • A Mac with macOS 26 or later, or an iPad with iPadOS 26 or later.
  • Importing from Apple Health is available on iPad only; on the Mac, import FIT files.
  • An iCloud account is optional, for syncing between your devices and for groups.

A file won't import

  • Make sure the file is a .fit file, a ZIP archive containing .fit files, or a Strava export. Other formats such as GPX or TCX aren’t supported.
  • A file that is damaged is still imported as far as it can be read; the ride is marked so you know part of it is missing.
  • A ride that is already in your library is recognised and not added twice, even if it came from a different device.
  • A value you expect is missing? The device didn’t record that sensor. FIT Compare shows it as “not recorded” rather than as zero.

Two rides don't line up

  • Rides are compared along the route when they follow the same one, and by each ride’s own distance when they don’t.
  • Small differences in total distance between devices are normal; GPS recorders and wheel sensors measure slightly differently.
  • Key moments need rides on the same route.
  • Climbing is the device’s own total when it recorded one (barometer) and is marked “computed” otherwise, so two devices can legitimately differ.

Rides from Apple Health don't appear

  • Health import is available on iPad. Open Health → your profile picture → Apps → FIT Compare and make sure Workouts, Workout Routes, Heart Rate, Cycling Power, Cadence, Speed and Distance are turned on.
  • iPadOS keeps your answer to the permission question, not the app, and doesn’t tell apps what was turned off. If rides import without heart rate or route, check those switches.
  • Only cycling workouts are listed. Workouts recorded as another type, such as a generic workout, aren’t shown.
  • FIT Compare only reads from Apple Health; it never writes to it.

iCloud sync and groups

  • Sync and groups need you to be signed in to iCloud on every device, with iCloud turned on for FIT Compare in Settings → [your name] → iCloud.
  • Give sync a few minutes after importing; it runs in the background and needs a connection.
  • Group members appear after the next update once they have accepted your invitation.
  • Taking a ride out of a group removes it from the group, but not from the libraries of members who already added it.

Frequently asked questions

  • Does FIT Compare need an account? No — there’s no sign‑up or login. iCloud is optional and only used to sync your own devices and for groups.
  • Can I record rides with it? No — FIT Compare is for comparing rides recorded elsewhere, such as with a bike computer or VeloCyRaptor.
  • How do I export a comparison? Open the comparison and use Export to save a PDF report or an image, then choose where to send it.
  • Who can see the rides I share to a group? Only the members of that group. I can’t see them. See the privacy policy.
  • Will my rides be re-analysed after an update? Yes. The original FIT file is kept, so rides are read again when the analysis improves. Rides from Apple Health have no file and keep their figures.
